Configure Keyboard Shortcut and Mouse settings in Mac OS X

  1. under "Hardware" in the MacOsXsystemPreferences, click "Keyboard & Mouse"
  2. click onto the "Keyboard Shortcuts" tab
  3. underneath "Dock, Exposé, and Dashboard", uncheck "Automatically hide and show the Dock"
  4. click all downward-pointing little triangles on the left in order to hide all sub-items
  5. make sure that the checkboxes next to "Screen Shots", "Keyboard Navigation", "Dictionary" and "Spotlight" are checked
  6. make sure that the checkbox next to "Universal Access" is unchecked unless special setup is required due to user impairment
  7. if the user uses more than one keyboard language mapping, check the checkbox next to "Input Menu", otherwise leave it unchecked
  8. if yellow warning triangles are shown there are conflicting entries needing to be resolved (most likely from "Spotlight", see MacOsXconfigureSpotlightPrefs)
  9. click "Show All" if you want to configure other settings, otherwise close the panel
