Uwe Röhm - Curriculum
- PhD ETH Zurich
In the database research group of Prof. H.-J. Schek, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, on OLAP in a cluster of databases.
Involved work on replication management, distributed query processing, object management, and CORBA.
- Dipl.-Inform. (equiv. MSc(CS)) University of Passau
main fields: database systems and medical informatics
master thesis on Optimization of Prefetch Support Relations.
- 2004 -- present Associate Professor, University of Sydney
- 1996 -- 2002 Research Assistant, ETH Zurich
I worked on two main research directions:
1998 - 2002 OLAP with a cluster of databases
1996 - 1998 CORBA services over heterogeneous repositories
Furthermore, I participated in the PASTEL Esprit Project on persistent application systems, technologies, environments, and languages, and was involved in the ERCIM Joint EU-NSF Working Group on Interoperability between Digital Libraries.
See also this dedicated page for details of my research activities.
- 1996 -- 2002 Teaching Assistant, ETH Zurich
I was involved in teaching of a variety of computer science courses, e.g., 'Kernfach' information systems, interoperable information systems (aka XML ,-), object-relational and extensible databases, and transactional middleware technology.
See also here for a list of diploma and semester works I supervised.
Our group also organized several professional development courses, in which I was involved as expert for object-oriented databases, distributed objects (CORBA, EJB, .NET), and XML.
- 1993 -- 1996 Collegiate Employee, University of Passau
During my studies at University of Passau, I worked as collegiate employee (German: "Hilfsassistent") on object-oriented databases in the research group of Prof. A. Kemper. The main responsibility was prototype development (e.g. Genie, a full-functional object page server to investigate callback-read locking, and the buffer manager of Merlin, an object-oriented database prototype based on Exosdus), and web administration.
- 2002 -- 2004 IT Consultant, Avinci Unilog, Munich
Software developer and system analyst in the area of IT solutions / EAI; responsible business development manager for XML Web-Services and Microsoft .NET; expert for databases, application server, and middleware technologies.
Co-organisator of the 2006 ARC EII Workshop on Wireless Sensor Networks for Enterprise Information Infrastructure, Sydney, Australia, 2006.
In 1997, I organized the 1997 Latsis Symposium Information and Communication Systems at ETH Zurich, Switzerland.
Between 1993 and 1996, I had the privilege to serve as Treasurer and Chairman of the IEEE Student Branch Passau.
