BIT/BMedSc

The Bachelor of Information Technology and Bachelor of Medical Science is a five year combined degree.

Course rules

To be awarded the Bachelor of Bachelor of Information Technology and Bachelor of Medical Science, students must successfully complete a total of 240 credit points, comprising:

From the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies (Bachelor of Information Technology component):

  • A maximum of 72 credit points from first year units of study (core and recommended electives)
  • At least 84 credit points from 3000-level and above units (including 72cp of core, selected core and recommended electives)
  • At least 18 credit points of MATH/STAT units of study
  • Completion of the Computer Science and/or Information Systems stream

From the Faculty of Science (Bachelor of Medical Science component):

  • At least 48 credit points from Junior Science units of study, comprising MBLG1001/MBLG1901 Molecular Biology and Genetics/(Adv), 12 credit points each from Chemistry, Mathematics (this may include the 18 credit points of MATH/STAT units of study undertaken for the BIT component) and Physics or Computational Science, and 6 credit points of Biology.
  • 48 credit points of Intermediate core units of study listed in Table IV of the Faculty of Science Handbook of units of study for the Bachelor of Medical Science;
  • At least 24 credit points of Senior units of study taken from the subject areas of Anatomy/Histology, Biology (Genetics), Biochemistry, Cell Pathology, Immunology, Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Physiology.
  • Please note that up to 12 credit points of Senior units of study listed in Table IV of the Faculty of Science Handbook of units of study for the Bachelor of Medical Science can be approved towards the Bachelor of Information Technology's selected core units at level 3000 and above.
